For Boys and Girls in Year 8
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the most common viral sexually transmitted infection which can progress to cancer. The HPV vaccine protects against HPV related diseases such as oral, throat and anal/genital cancers as well as cervical cancer in girls. Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common women's cancer in the world, with around 3000 cases diagnosed in the UK every year. The vaccine is being offered to Boys and Girls in Year 8 at school.
Further information can be found on the righthand side of this page and tells you and your child about the HPV vaccine. To get the best protection, it is important that he/she receives both injections over an 18 month period.
